Ashley in Italy, Winter 2011 - Post 1

Hello, my name is Ashley. I am a senior Criminology and Criminal Justice Major and I am traveling to Genoa, Italy to study Italian Language and Culture. This blog will track all of the fun times and new experiences I have in Italy. I hope you enjoy this and I am able to explain to you just what I am feeling in every experience.

So, I will be on my way to Genoa, Italy very soon. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. This is going to be my first time leaving the country without my mother and that makes me a little anxious. Because this is my first time leaving the United States alone my parents are also a bit anxious. They bought me an international cell phone and I think having it will help them worry a little less. I have also noticed how happy they are that I want to do something like this on my own. Even though, I will definitely miss my family I am glad to be able to go with my peers.

I am looking forward to a lot of things when I arrive, especially tasting the food in Italy. I am also really excited and ready to site see in Italy. I have done a lot to prepare for this trip. I am hoping everything goes well and I am able to communicate with the locals by the time I leave.I have done some research and I found a place that allows me to place euro's on a debit card. It is located in Union Station and the businesses name is Travel X. I think it will be a lot easier to use the card, because if I lose it I can replace the card without a problem. They say this card is "today’s new traveler’s check". My overall feelings are that I am very happy to have this opportunity and can't wait to get to Italy. I look forward to posting pictures of all the great experiences I will have. Until next time CIAO!!!
